But if you’re one of those parents who wants to name their child something different, there are some unique names for kittens that include some male cat names, such as Al E. Cat, Bogie, Clooney, Daxter, and Ember.

Some people chose names for kittens based on the cat’s behavior, such as “Rascal” for a cat who was, well, quite a rascal, and “Prozac” for a cat who was, well, let’s just say more than a little bit nervous. Some people like to choose male cat names that are very masculine like Harley, Ace, Slick, and Axel.

If you’re at your wits’ end trying to come up with a name for your new loved one, all you have to do is type “cat names” into a search engine on your computer and the internet will provide you with thousands of potential names broken down into lists by gender, by funny names, by cute names, by unique names, and more.

According to a couple of websites I visited, here are the Top 5 female cat names: Princess, Samantha, Kitty, Molly, and Maggie. For boys, it’s Max, Sam, Tigger, Tiger, and Smokey.

Isn’t it funny how people determine names for cats? Some of the newer names for cats out there are Malika, Chestnut, Carlisle, Grim, and Gilagon. Go figure!

When I named my oldest cat, I didn’t want to pick from a list of common female cat names. I tried to think of something that would fit her without being too cutesy. She is solid white, female, fat, and cranky. I didn’t picture her as a Snowflake or Snowball, so I ended up naming her Casper the Unfriendly Ghost Cat, Casper for short.

Some people name their cats after celebrities or name them for something funny that they do. Some of the funny names I’ve seen are Catzilla, Chairman Meow, D. Claude Cat, Dan D. Lion, and Edward Claws Scissorpaws.

There’s really no rule for naming cats. Whatever you name them, they don’t answer to it anyway because, after all, they’re cats. Cats don’t do anything you want them to do. So whether you name your cat after your great Aunt Sally or after a brand name of spaghetti sauce, just have fun with it.

Before she came home that day, kitten names were the last things on my mind. We had not given a moment’s thought to any names for cats, or any other animals for that matter.

My wife and I had been married for six years already, and we had decided together that we had no desire to own any pets. Up until that day, I think we had gotten along just fine too. Then she brought us Zorro, and now I don’t think that things would be the same around our house if she hadn’t taken him when she did.

Through the front door my wife came that day, holding the cat, and oh what a surprise it was! “What in the world is that?” I asked with an astonished look on my face.

“It’s a cat Daddy,” she exclaimed, as she handed the cat to our two young children. “And I suppose you know some good names for cats?” I said.

I don’t think it needs to be told here, but there is a legend of an old Hispanic crusader who dressed himself all in black, and this is whom Zorro is named after.

“Names for cats?” she asked. “What do you think about Zorro the cat?”

The children jumped for joy, and in unison they asked, “You mean we can keep him?” “Yes” I said. “Yippee” they both shouted together.

So three years later, we have three cats, and while Zorro is a male cat, the other two cats are females. I read really much about cats, and I guess now I know about them everything, including about their behavior, preferences, the games they like to play and so on. And that makes me love them more. It seems likely that we will one day have a house full of cats. Or perhaps that’s just my imagination. But before she came home that day, kitten names were the last things on my mind.

So now we’re going to look for both male cat names and female cat names based on personalities and many other factors.

• Wild. If your cat is wild think of Cyclone, Twister and Taz (short for Tasmanian Devil).
• Calm. For calm personalities consider Dreamer and Phish.
• Mischievous. Your mischievous cat won’t mind to be called Wizard, Beelzebub or Diablo. Why Diablo??? But why not?

• Music names. You can give your cat pet some of music and sound names such as Jazz, Soprano, Jingle, Maestro, Lyric, Whisper and Rhythm.

• Cute names. If you find your cat very sweet and I’m sure you do, think of Bumble, Hugz, Kiki, Poppy and Dustbunny.

• Funny names. Consider some of these funny names as well–Rover, Hey You, A.C. (which stands for another cat), Dammit, Aristocrat (Ari) and Spot.

• Cartoon, TV based names. Names from Cartoons, TV and books are also interesting to look for. For instance, Gizmo, Harry Potter, Tarzan, Zoro, Batman, Oscar, Calvin, Romeo, Casanova (Nova) and the name of famous comedy actor Mr.Bean, would surely suit your funny cat.

• Smart names for cats. Your smart cat probably won’t mind to be given a name of a famous figure such as Einsten, Da Vinci, Bogart, Titus and Mozart.

• Names based on Gods and legends. And what about names based on Gods and legends? If you find it interesting, Freya, Osiris, Pandora, Zeus, Minevra, Adonis (which is usually called as Donny) may be of your interest.

• Outer space names. It looks a bit weird yet interesting to give your cat an outer space and universe names such as Galaxy, Comet, Cosmos, Venus and Nova.

• Technology Based Names. Have you ever heard about them? They’re really unique so your cat will be proud to be given such a special name like Pixel, Browser and Byte.

• Food and drink based names. Names such as Biscuit, Peanut, Cocoa and Cola are also rare but… funny and amusing!

• Weather based names. This may sound ridiculous or weird but the names can be based on weather as well. I was thinking to name my pet Tsunami, Thunder or Storm but he is not that fierce, I think.

Whatever you choose make sure that the name is as unique as your pet. And also be sure that neither you nor your cat will ever be ashamed of it.

I myself was looking for cat pets names for a long time, but not all of them are really interesting and special. So I’m going to share with you some special pet names both for female and male cats, which attracted my attention.

But there are some tips you should know before you choose a proper name for your cat.

1. If you choose a name with “E” ending your cat will respond faster (promptly).

2. Your cat would respond faster if you choose a short name.

3. Yet if you like a name which is long than you may think of a short nickname as well.

4. And try to picture the way you call your pet’s name. If it looks embarrassing to you, choose another one. For instance can you imagine yourself calling your cat Elizabeth Emily Red? I think you’ll imagine Emy and Lizie better. Also pronounce the name aloud several time to determine whether you like it or not.

5. Lastly, your pet’s name should somehow suit him by appearance, personality traits, color, breed and so on.

• Orange cats. If your cat’s color is orange, think of Paprika, Sunset, Chilli.
• White cats. If it’s white Frosty, Icey and Snowflake would suit him.
• Black cats. If it’s black Mephistopheles–Mephisto for short , Shadow or Ebony would suit him as well.
• Grey. Your grey kitten won’t mind to be called Ash Smokey Ghost.
• Yellow. Mooney, Goldie, Buttercup will suit a yellow one.
• Brown. Cappuchino, Latte, Coffee will go for a brown cat.

You can even create a name for your cat yourself. For instance choose your favorite syllables and combine them.:)

Choosing names from fairy tales, movies or cartoons is also a good idea. Nugent–As in Ted Nugent, Rapunzel, Godiva for long-haired kittens; or Cinderella and Matilda.

I picked 10 elvish names that will be great for any cat and describe how special it is.

• Mellimeldisiel – a beloved friend, this is what your cat is to you. This name is beautiful, but perhaps it is a bit long. Perhaps you can shorten it to Mellie or Disiel.
• Valadhiel. Is your cat one of those white, fluffy beauties, who looks like a little fluffy cloud? She is like an angel, isn’t she? Name her Valadhiel, which means “angelic.”

• Rhavaniel. Remember the story by Rudyard Kipling “The Cat That Walked By Himself?” Nothing has changed since the time that was described in the story. Cats still walk by themselves, they are the wildest among the pets. Is yours one of those wild cats? Then the perfect name will be Rhavaniel, which means “wild.”
• Marcauniel. Perhaps because they used to be worshiped, cats seem to think they are gods. Let’s face it: your cat thinks she rules the world, which is your home. Give her the pleasure of naming her Marcauniel, the ruler of the home.
• Laucamiluiel. What can be better that the feeling of calmness and comfort that you get from touching your cat? These magical creatures have healing power, they make all your worries go away. Does your cat love sitting on your lap and giving you those heavenly feelings? Then it is Laucamiluiel, warm and comforting.

These elvish names for cats sound really beautiful and they will really describe the nature of your beloved pet.

Of course you may just pick the first name that comes to your mind, but don’t you think there are lots of interesting options waiting for you to settle upon? Some people have already searched for good ideas and here’s what they have thought of:

• Names of places — countries, cities, geographic localities.
• Food and drink items, from sweets to alcohol – they all can serve as basis to name the dog (my friend’s dog is named Dunkin, after his favorite place to buy a cup of coffee, Dunkin Donuts).
• Names of celebrities are widely-used – singers, actors, sports stars or media personalities.
• Mythology, fiction, movies, cartoons characters are other popular alternatives.
• Nature – all of its diversity.
• Favorite brands are one of the recent trends in dog naming.
• Appearance and personality traits, be it a habit or a physical character – they’re all handy.
• The dog’s place in the family hierarchy.

All of these suggestions may guide you towards making the right decision. However, people make frequent mistakes with male dog names that are easy to avoid if you follow these common rules:

First of all, beware of giving your dog a name that doesn’t fit its breed’s origin or traits. And also be sure that you give your male dog a definite, masculine name.

Second, don’t name your dog after a close relative, colleague or a friend. They may be more offended than proud as a result. And if you prefer a celebrity’s name, don’t choose a politician’s name, at least.

Third, try to avoid long, complex names that are difficult to pronounce, understand and remember. Choose an innovative one instead.

Finally, if you want to choose from different, exciting and creative male dog names make sure that all your family members understand the meaning and like the way it sounds, or at least seek everybody’s permission before choosing the name yourself.

There are countless dogs names you may give your pet, but do think before giving a preference to this or that one. You’ll need to call that name so many times per day for so many years, which is why it must be well thought over.

Of course there are some names that may be given to both boy and girl dogs but you may also make your choice from special boy dog names, for instance Max, Buddy, Bailey, Rocky and Jake, and girl dog names, with popular ones being Molly, Bella, Lucy, Roxy, Gracie and Coco.

If you don’t want a proper name for your pet you may name him with any other name, but in this case be more attentive and take the word’s meaning into account. Your dog must not be confused when hearing his name just because it sounds like any other word or command like no, yes or sit.

It’s also preferable to have a short name for your dog as he will more easily remember and get accustomed to it. Besides, you will feel more comfortable when calling him.
