Guinea Pigs Know How To Cheer You UpHave you ever seen a guinea pig — one of the funniest creatures in the world?

If you haven’t, don’t confuse it with an actual pig. Because a guinea pig is not a pig and it does not even come from Guinea. It still remains a mystery why this animal was called a guinea pig .

A guinea pig or cavy was first found in the Andes. It’s hard to believe that this little sweet creature was in the wild. And he was first domesticated in 5000 BC.

Guinea pigs were once used as food but today they are the favorite pets of many people. Guinea pigs usually live five to eight  years. They are lovely creatures that sometimes like  to jump, and it really looks very funny when they do. Usually they are not active. They don’t move much and climb very slowly.

Senses of touch, smell and hearing are well-developed in them. When a guinea pig hears loud voices he may be scared and hide. Guinea pigs produce different sounds. Especially when communicating with each other  they produce more than eleven sounds. When you caress a pet guinea pig he starts purring. When he wants to eat, he starts chirping. It’s really funny. Guinea pigs really knows how to cheer you up!

For feeding give a guinea pig grass. He’ll also eat turnip greens, pellets, hay, collard, kale and spinach with a great pleasure.

Guinea pigs adore playing. You can place empty coffee cans, plastic pipes and cardboard in the cage. But remember that your pet guinea pig needs a normal space so the cage should be a minimum of four square feet.

I always enjoy caressing my pet guinea pig. When I look at the way he jumps and listen to his sweet sounds, I always smile.
