How about owning a Yorkie? Yorkshire Terrier dogs are loving and devoted pets.
This breed was first developed in the 1800s, in Yorkshire, England, from where it got its name. Today, Yorkies are very popular.
Yorkshire Terriers are one of the smallest dogs and they’re usually called toy or teacup dogs.
Their average height varies between seven to nine inches and average weight from three to seven pounds. So, they are easy to take with. But be careful when handling a Yorkie, since they are fragile and may get injured.
Despite their small size, Yorkshire Terrier Dogs are fearless and would faithfully guard the house when the owner is away. It’s really amazing how such a small dog can bark and move towards a big one. They are really vigorous and active, though sometimes they can be quite noisy.
The coat of a Yorkie dog comes in two types: soft and silky. Silky coats are long and you have to brush them almost every day to keep the shine. When the hair of the dog falls in his eyes, it should be tied up with a band. As for the soft coats, they’re short and do not require frequent grooming.
Here’s some things to remember when caring for a Yorkie. When bathing a Yorkie make sure that the water does not get into his ears, otherwise the ears may get infected. Don’t forget to remove the mucus from the eyes with warm water when needed. Also keep the teeth clean as teeth problems are common among Yorkie dogs.
Yorkies like to play but usually not with children. Children may play roughly with them but Yorkies are not patient enough to tolerate such an attitude. Moreover, Yorkies are sometimes extremely stubborn and like to have everything done their way.
Thus they mostly suit elderly people and are great companions for caring ladies who like such cheerful creatures. Yorkies undoubtedly enjoy being in the center of attention.
And finally, if you’re going to take your Yorkie for a walk in cold weather, dress him warmly. There are special dog coats and sweaters just for them.
