Originally Written By 1800-Pet-Shed.Com
My husband and I have recently adopted a neighborhood stray cat, though I have to admit we don’t know much about how to train a cat. We call him Midnight, because, of course, he is a black cat.

He’s very friendly; even though he was homeless he has been carried by every child in the neighborhood, so he is docile and affectionate.

Actually, he’s a little too affectionate. Now when we pet him, Midnight wants to love us back, so he bites. These are little cat nips, not full blown bites, no skin broken, no blood loss, but they still hurt. What do you do about cat biting?

We don’t want to discourage his love making. The more affection we get, the more he loves it too. We’re just about ready to bring him into the house as we’re letting our three dogs get used to him. We’re training them not to chase and him not to run. This is a challenge unto itself.

I’ve never had the experience of cat biting and I just don’t know the solution to this problem. Do we squirt him with a water gun? That seems harsh to me. What about just saying “no”? Do cats respond to “bad cat” and “good cat”? Do we slap his paw and say “bad boy”?

My cat ownership is very limited as this is my first cat. I do know enough to love and cherish, take him regularly to the vet and get him neutered. I know all the essentials but I don’t know the specifics of how to train a cat.

What would you do? How would you control your cat biting? Do you accept it as a love token and part of the cost of pet ownership? Or is behavior modification desired, or even necessary?

Help me adjust to either the cat biting or show me what cat training tricks I can use to make my cat be affectionate in a less hurtful way.

Originally Written By 1800-Pet-Shed.Com
The Egyptian Mau belongs to the spotted cat breed the history of which goes back to the times of ancient Egypt. These cats were so popular in Egypt that their facial markings served as an example for women to pattern their eye make up.

Egyptian Maus are agile cat breeds that make best household companions. As you can see, they are long and muscular. The color of their coat can be bronze, smoke, silver or black. The adult male Maus weigh about 10-14 pounds, and the adult females are 6-10 pounds.

Just look at this cat: Seems like the cat is an embodiment of aristocracy and nobility. What makes this cat breed especially unique is its large gooseberry green eyes. Another peculiarity of these cat pets is their distinctive spotting. The shape and the size of the spots vary greatly – they can be round or oblong, large and small.

By the way, look attentively at the cat’s forehead. Did you notice that “M?” To tell the truth, I myself don’t know what it means, one thing I can tell you fore sure – Egyptian Maus are distinguished by this “M” from all the other cat breeds.

If you liked the appearance of this cat breed, I am pretty sure you will love these cats even more when you learn about their personality. They’re loving, devoted and extremely faithful. Egyptian Maus love to stalk and play mock hunting games. Though not wild cat breeds, they are great hunters, so I advise you to keep them inside.

One thing that really surprises me about these cat pets is that they love water. They dabble their toes in the water and seem to be playing. It’s something really worth watching.

Egyptian Maus, by the way, are very communicative. If your Mau wags her tail, treads with her feet or makes sounds like “chortling,” it means they are inviting you into a conversation. These are actions you should pay attention to, as they are never purposeless. For example, your Egyptian Mau can be telling you she wants to eat, or to play – anything you can think of.

As for their grooming, you needn’t worry much. They have a short coat; accordingly, you won’t have to consider maximal grooming. Just take care to brush them (they enjoy cat brush) and clip their claws at least twice a month.

As for the price, Egyptian Maus are expensive cat pets, but if you really want to keep one, I’d advise the black Mau. The primary difference between them is in their color and the almost invisible spots.

And lastly, to all Egyptian Mau cat seekers – if you loved this cat breed, try to learn about the cat breeders and their locations, share your experience and just have fun talking of your Egyptian Mau.

Originally Written By 1800-Pet-Shed.Com
A mysterious and fluffy bundle of senses and instincts. These words can probably best describe our four-legged friend, the cat. They are gentle and wild, aggressive and fragile.

Don’t these qualities indicate that cats do have rather interesting personalities? The cat is one of the most paradoxical creatures combining human and jungle instincts. Maybe nowadays it is regarded as a simple mouse-hunter but in Ancient Egypt it was a sacred symbol.

The cat was a central figure in Egyptian culture and was a religious symbol of life, protection and fertility. It enjoyed great significance and fame in Indian, Chinese and Muslim cultures, too. Of course, there are controversial views regarding the cat: some consider it a symbol of good, others of evil, some as a symbol of virtue, others of vice.

Of course all cats are alike but at the same time they are different as they have individual characteristics. One common characteristic of cats is self-reliance. They aren’t dependent on human beings and don’t require attention all the time. They enjoy their freedom, but that doesn’t prevent them from being extremely devoted to their owners. They will never ignore your attention and care. Be sure it will be mutual.

If your cat has a personality then it cannot do without a name. A cat name represents the importance you place on your cat. Below is a list of names to consider for cats that used by different cultures:

African names: Amma, Shango, Mungo
Egyptian names: Anubis, Geb, Osiris
Greek names: Adonis, Apollo, Artemis, Eros
Indian names: Bali, Brahma, Kali

As Sigmund Freud once said, “Time spent with cats is never wasted.” So discover for yourself what cat personality is.
